An IDM alternative for Windows 10 and 11
Haul does what you use Internet Download Manager for: up to 32 connections per file, picking up after a dropped line, catching downloads from your browser, saving videos and running queues on a schedule. It's free to download and use for now, and it opens your IDM download list.
Haul and IDM side by side
IDM details from internetdownloadmanager.com, October 2026.
Where Haul is different
- It adds connections as it goes. Haul starts a file on one connection and adds more while every one of them is receiving, with a limit per server.
- It won't splice two versions of a file. If the file changed on the server while the download was paused, Haul starts it over instead of joining old and new parts.
- It updates without stopping your downloads. Haul checks the update's signature, restarts, and running downloads carry on in the new version.
- It looks the way you like. 8 themes, from Light and Dark to Nord and Tokyo Night, in 10 languages.
- Nothing extra. No ads, no toolbars, no bundled offers.
Switching from IDM
- In IDM, open Tasks → Export → To IDM export file and save the
.ef2file. - In Haul, open File → Import list… and pick that file. The links come in with their referrers and cookies; choose the ones you want and add them.
- Stop IDM catching downloads, or both apps will grab the same file: in IDM, untick Options → General → Use advanced browser integration, and remove IDM's extension from your browser.
- Add Haul Browser Integration from the Chrome Web Store. It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Arc. Not showing up?
Questions
Is Haul free?
Haul is free to download and use for now. Later versions may be paid; the Terms have the details.
Is Haul faster than IDM?
Both split a file across up to 32 connections, so on the same line and server they finish close together. Your connection and the server set the limit, not the app.
Can I keep IDM installed?
Yes. Turn off browser integration in one of them, or both will try to catch the same download.
Does Haul save YouTube videos?
Yes, and videos from many other sites, through the yt-dlp that comes with it. It refuses DRM-protected videos.
Does Haul run on Windows 7 or 32-bit Windows?
No. Haul needs 64-bit Windows 10 or 11.
